At the December 6, 2011 Organization Meeting of the LGSUHSD Board, Trustees officers were elected for 2012.  Ms. Michele van Zuiden, having served as Board President for 2011, was thanked for her exemplary leadership  during the past year and her guidance during the passage of the first ever district parcel tax, Measure A.  She turned over the gavel to Ms. Cynthia Chang who was elected to serve as President for the coming year.  Ms. Chang has served on the LGSUHSD Board of Trustees since 1998, is currently serving on the California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly, represents the Board on the MetroEd Board of Trustees, and is on the Board of the Saratoga Foundation.  In addition, Ms. Rosemary Rossi was elected to serve as Vice President and Mr. Douglas Ramezane as Clerk.  Ms. van Zuiden and Dr. Wernick will continue to serve in key Board liaison and leadership roles.

Congratulations to Sharon E. Smith, our District's Teacher of the Year, 2011.  Sharon, an English teacher at Los Gatos High School since 1977, has been described as an "educational warrior," passionate, dedicated and committed to her students!  She works tirelessly on behalf of her students and colleagues and is respected and loved in return.  Sharon is both a veteran and a pioneer, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience as she explores and implements new ideas - the embodiment of an educator and lifelong learner.  Beyond the classroom, she is the force behind the LGHS Speech and Debate team, dedicating time and heart to these students.

Ever Guzman, Custodial Night Crew Chief at Saratoga High School, has been named District Classified Employee of the Year, following in the footsteps of Ricardo Alas (LGHS) as our second ever District Classified Employee of the Year.  Ever has been at Saratoga High since 1991 and was the enthusiastic choice among his co-workers for this honor.  He is known for his dedication, cheerfulness and willingness to go over and above the call of duty.  He can be found supporting the many evening activities at SHS, working with staff and welcoming visitors and responding to alarm calls at the school at all hours (when the rest of us are at home, maybe asleep).  He is spoken of with respect and affection and we are proud to have Ever Guzman on our staff.

The deadline to apply for an Exemption, including the Senior Citizen exemption, to the Measure A Parcel Tax for 2011 is June 15th, 2011.  After that, we will not be able to accept additional applications.  To receive an Exemption for 2012, please contact  the district office beginning April 2012.
